Battery Environmental Responsibility Dues 

• The Basel Convention recommends the development of local environmentally sound disposal methods and technologies to encourage local recycling to reduce of export of hazardous waste across international boundaries and countries, which is also a major focus of the alliance hence the need for adequate funding.
• The Waste Battery Recyclers Association have proposed a 1%(one percent) battery recycling fee on every tonne of used battery collected and recycled in Nigeria. Consequently, every new battery producer will also pay a 1% (one percent) battery recycling fee for every battery sold in Nigeria.
• The battery recycling fee is NOT a government revenue or a tax. The fee is a producer responsibility deposit managed by the ARBR for executing programmes and projects for responsible used battery management in Nigeria. Member of the ARBR will commit to paying battery recycling dues in line with global best practice and recommended by the Basel Convention Manual of Used Lead Acid Batteries

The ARBR has adopted the 1% recycling due proposed by the Waste Battery Recyclers Association of Nigeria. All corporate members of the ARBR will pay a recycling due equivalent to 1% of the depreciated value of all batteries the company intends to produce, import, collect or recycle. The battery recycling due is not a government revenue or tax, but an environmental responsibility deposit managed by the ARBR for executing programmes and projects to clean up and protect the environment from the pollution footprint of the battery sector in Nigeria.

Grants and Donations

The ARBR will receive donations, grants and support from local and international development partners, governments, and organisations interested in the protection of the environment from dirty battery recycling pollutin g the Nigeria environment and population.
